Top Ten Things to Do in Albufeira This Summer

Albufeira is the ultimate family holiday destination, as well as being perfect for couples. The town is split into two main sections, the old town and the strip, making it a buzzing place for party goers, but it’s easy to escape if you’re looking for something more quiet.

It is close to Faro airport and has a range of beautiful beaches, so look no further, Albufeira is your new summer holiday destination!

Visit Zoomarine

Zoomarine is a marine park, with water rides and a wave pool, seal and dolphin shows and also an aquarium. The thing that draws many people in is the opportunity to swim with the dolphins!

This is the perfect day out for all the family, as you can spend the morning watching shows, grab some lunch and then relax around the water park in the afternoon. Swimming with the dolphins does come at a cost, but it’s sure to be a once in a lifetime experien

Relax at Praia da Marinha

This superb beach has stunning views, and is well worth a visit. There are beautiful coves and cliff walks, and the water is just as clear and magical as the view is.

There is parking nearby also which is handy for those of you driving. The sea is slightly rocky so perhaps pack your sea shoes. This is a must see whilst staying in Albufeira!


Explore the Old Town 

Consisting of cobbles streets, unique mosaics and undoubtable charm, the old town isn’t a sight to be missed. You can explore the trinket shops and stop for something to eat or drink in one of the many bars or restaurants. With live entertainers lining the streets in the summer, this relaxed atmosphere will certainly leave you feeling calm and composed. 

 

Watersports

For the adventurous travellers out there, having a go at watersports will add a bit of a thrill to your afternoon at the beach. Head down to Ski Molhado to get a choice of watersports to suit you! 

 

Go to Al-Buhera Festival

If you’re visiting Albufeira in July, then head to the square of Praia dos Pescadores for the festival. You’ll find live concerts, performances, food and drink stands and a wide range of handmade local products.

Try the Local Cuisine

The local restaurants have amazing ranges of fresh fish and homemade food. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the service is great. Visit smaller restaurants such as Os Arcos Restaurante to get a feel for the local cuisine.

Fine Dining

If your budget is slightly higher and you wanted an extremely special evening, then visit Restaurant Vila Joya located in the five star hotel Vila Joya. The head chef is Dieter Koschina who has two michelin stars. With a tasting menu that changes day to day, you won’t forget your evening at Vila Joya. 

 

Have a Wander Round the Marina

The marina is a beautiful sight, as behind the array of boats and yachts there are many stunning buildings, which are a glow in the evening. Take a look around this idyllic spot or you’ll be missing out!

 

Take a Boat Trip

During your wander around the marina, have a look out for boat excursions as many go out from this spot. The coastline around Albufeira is stunning, so a boat trip is definitely something to tick off your list. 

 

Forget Nando’s, Try Real Piri-Piri! 

A smaller village in the area of Albufeira called Guia is known for its speciality of piri-piri chicken. The chicken is coated in the unique sauce and is chargrilled. You won’t find it any more authentic than in Guia, and it is certainly going to give your usual Nando’s some stiff competition.
