THE OLD TOWN AND BEACH
Albufeira Old Town offers a relaxed atmosphere with its picturesque central square surrounded by lovely bars and restaurants. There’s a whole host of little shops and boutiques where you can while away the time browsing or pick up traditional Portuguese gifts. Or if relaxing on the warm, sandy beaches is more for you, Albufeira has two main beaches; Praia dos Pescadores and Praia do Tunel. Here you can try the mouth-watering barbecued fish for lunch or choose from one of the restaurants and bars overlooking the sea.
ALBUFEIRA MARINA
To the west of the town lies the marina. With its sugar candy coloured buildings, the marina provides a lovely spot to watch the boats and people go by. Here you can take a boat trip, fishing expedition or book a diving excursion. Or why not hire a Segway to take you along the marina’s long promenade! Just around the corner you will also discover the traditional fishing port giving stunning views of Albufeira across the bay.
Restaurants, vineyards and bars
The quieter area of Galé lies 5km west of Albufeira old town. With three beautiful beaches, Praia da Galé Oeste, Praia da Galé Leste and the small, sheltered bay of Praia do Manuel Lourenço, this coastal resort is perfect for a relaxing family holiday. With a scattering of restaurants, bars and shops, it’s a lovely place to unwind and experience the relaxed Portuguese lifestyle.
A little further inland you’ll find the village of Guia, where you can visit Zoomarine with its aquarium, dolphin shows and water theme park. Here you’ll also find the Algarve shopping centre and Adega do Cantor, Sir Cliff Richard’s vineyard and winery. Perched at the top of Quinta do Miradouro with stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and coastline, you can take a guided tour or sample the Portuguese wine for yourselves.
